The word Karate means `empty hand` and, as this
implies, does not involve the use of weapons. Children are taught how to punch,
kick and block. Both physical and mental discipline is needed and, even from the
age of five, children are taught the basic movements, concentration, right
attitude and etiquette of Karate. It is stressed to all students that karate is
for self defence only.
By learning karate, children may be able to
improve reaction time, develop an awareness of what is going on around them
and, perhaps most importantly, develop an awareness of their own power and gain
confidence in themselves to act in potentially
dangerous situations.
Pantha Karate Club instructors, Lloyd and Deirdre Wolfson, 6th Dan and 5th Dan, teach all the classes
together.
The Pantha Karate
club is affiliated to The International Association of Shotokan
Karate (IASK), headed by Mr. N.B. Adamou, 8th Dan.
